Let’s Do this

I am starting a new chapter. Let’s see where this story goes.

Living Centstibly Today was a blog that I started a few years ago and because I let it lapse, I was surprised the site name was still available. So, here we are starting over.

I originally started it as a a way to share my retirement journey on social security. Today, I am still only on social security, but I am traveling this path alone.

My Handsome One lost his battle with cancer a few months ago and it is still so difficult. It is a challenge on so many levels.

  • I have been a wife since I was 19. I am 70 years old now.
  • My income has reduced another third.
  • Inflation continues to rise and property taxes, food costs, gas prices, and, well, the price of everything continues to increase.

Today as I continue to move forward without the Handsome One, it is important for me to realize that other women (and men) have had to move through this course of life.

I realized, too, while doing my own searches, that there was not much information about cooking for one or for how to shop for one or how to deal with living alone.

I have found some videos about living alone or as a single person, cookbooks for one, and budgeting. There are Facebook groups for seniors on low-income budgets. There are Facebook groups that are for seniors. There are Facebook groups that are for cooking for one. There are books on each of these subjects. However, I have not found one that combines them all.

I will share with you what works for me and the information I find along the way that I think may be helpful.

I will look at sites, videos, and books and share my own experiences regarding each of these scenarios, such as, when the money you have coming is a fixed income that one receives ONCE a month (in my case on the fourth Wednesday of every month) or what to do if the ground beef packages are too much to cook at one time or how to spend your days when everyone goes home after the Handsome One has been laid to rest (why, you blog, of course).

We are survivors and we will survive these experiences, too. God will call ALL of us home one day. But, until then it is my hope and goal to continue to share what I know and I what I discover along the way.

I have my WordPress tutorial and I will learn how to create effective and informational pages that I can be proud of and that hopefully you will learn something from and maybe chuckle a time or two along the way.

Tomorrow we begin. Come with me, We’ve got this.

Thank you, Mary. He meant so much to so many. There is however, much more to see and do before we are called to join him. I look forward to the future and what it brings. We will be together when it is time.

  2. What a surprise and a delight! You have mentioned this in the past and am so glad you are “at it” again. We have several ladies in our Thursday who are widows. Perhaps they could share their stories. I am looking forward to more of your thoughts. But, how do I find you on the internet?

Thank you, Mary. It is fun and I look forward to what’s next. The website should be livingcentsiblytoday.com. Much has changed in the web world since last I was playing in it. It will take a minute to catch up. So glad you enjoyed it.

  3. Good blog Michelle glad you have started it back up. I will be happily awaiting new titles to come.
I am glad and proud that your Handsome One was in my relation, he had a large presence that really reminded me of my Italian heritage and I could see his resemblances to my immediate family. From the second you two moved back home I felt a little “cured” of my sadness from the disconnect from my heritage. Perhaps a near homesick feeling was lifted for a time because of how Ritchie carried himself and showed his Italian stallion personality and character. Because of this around him I really felt at home and very comfortable. I am so glad that we had regular visits with the two of you and good pictures and memories of our times together. I am available if you need anything and always willing to hang out anytime we can get together. Ciao Bella, love Renee
