Let’s Do this

I like to cook. I enjoyed cooking as a wife, mother and grandmother. I cooked a lot! I still like to cook. The good thing about cooking is that it is economical and delicious.

And when I am doing my own cooking there is less chemicals and non essential ingredients like red dye 6 or whey protein isolate (?). If there is dry malted barley flour AND enriched wheat flour in my cookies I know why they are there and what to expect.

So, this morning, I decided to mix it up and made a dutch baby with cooked apples. I made them many times when it was just the Handsome One and me. I did not make them for the kids as I did not know these beautiful little pillows of a kind of pancake batter existed when they were small.

Cooking it for one was the challenge. A dutch baby is a German pancake that is cooked in a very hot (450 degree) oven. It uses very few ingredients! Just a tablespoon of butter, one egg, a small amount of milk and flour. You don’t even need a mixer just a wisk or a fork that one swished vigorously back and forth to mix.

The one thing you do need is a heavy skillet that will stand up to the 450

I cubed an apple and cooked it in a little butter and had “baked” apple with my dutch baby. My apple made one cup of cooked and sweetened fruit for my breakfast.

Add a little maple syrup and I had the perfect breakfast for one and less than the cost of going to a bakery to get a donut. Best of all, I knew what was in it.

You, too, can make delicious food for very little.

What’s next? Let’s find out together.

Drop in again, soon.
